TV chef Gordon Ramsay has dubbed fans of shark fin soup “f***ing mad” and told them to eat something else.

As part of Channel 4’s “fish season”, Ramsay visited Taiwan to sample a £90 bowl of the popular dish.

After trying a spoonful, he said: “What does it taste of? It’s really bizarre, because it actually tastes of nothing.

“The broth is really good. But it could have anything in there, chicken, duck, pork belly, anything. The one item spoiling it is the shark’s fin.

“The bland fin doesn’t deliver. They eat it because it is a symbol of status. It is f***ing mad.”

Ramsay discovers that dead sharks are dumped with their fins hacked off, and pleads: “Leave them alone. Respect their beauty.”

An estimated 100 million sharks are killed each year worldwide, damaging the ocean’s food chain.
